The purpose of the router and subnet lines in the DHCP Offer Message is to allow the client to correctly configure its network settings to identify local and remote addresses.
The DHCP server offers an IP address in the “Your IP Address” field. The client then requests that address in the Requested IP Address field.
The purpose of lease time is to specify the amount of time a host is allowed to use an IP address. The lease time in the discover message from the client was 90 days, the lease time in the server’s offer message was 8 hours, and the lease time in the server’s ACK message was 4 hours.
The purpose of the release message is to release the client IP address back to the server for reuse. There is no acknowledgement on the part of the server. If the message got lost, the IP address would simply be reclaimed at the end of the lease period.
Immediately after the conclusion of the DHCP negotiation, the client broadcast several ARP messages asking if any other host owned the IP address that it had just been assigned. It then sent several ARP announcement messages for that address.
